Gen AI Cinema & Hollywood Video: A Director, Producer & Critic’s Roundtable
The entertainment industry has a new category of film to discuss and analyze, one that did not exist prior to 2023. It is almost remarkable that “Generative AI Cinema” is now a category of “Creativity” that we must begin to take seriously. All through the year 2022 AI Image Generators began to improve and in 2023 the images began to move. It would make Thomas Edison and Auguste and Louis Lumière proud. And the practitioners of “Gen AI Cinema,” the directors and technologists, today’s AI storytellers are creating amazing short films and video experiments. Our roundtable today will bring together a group of “Creatives” that are breaking the ground for what will surely be the “Hollywood of the 21st Century.”

Quinn Halleck is a director and thought leader at the forefront of the AI-powered revolution in both narrative and documentary genres. His newest short-film, “Sigma_001”, defines a new relationship between AI and independent filmmakers by employing AI as a collaborator across all aspects of the workflow. Quinn received mentorship from director/producer Michael Bay, known for his work in films like “Armageddon,” “Transformers,” and “Pearl Harbor.” Since his association with Bay, Quinn has packaged and produced documentaries alongside notable figures such as Mark Wahlberg, DJ Khaled, and Jeremy Irons.
Katya Alexander is a producer who specializes in Indie Filmmaking and new technology. Katya achieved critical acclaim with "Pretty Problems", a film that emerged as the SXSW 2024 audience winner and one of the top selections on Hulu. Beyond the silver screen, her involvement in Sphere, Las Vegas, underscores her commitment to supporting both tech teams and filmmakers, bridging the gap between innovation and storytelling. Now, Katya Alexander is the President of Pillars, an AI production studio that has the goal of putting these tools into the hands of creatives. As she embarks on her next ventures, Katya Alexander wants to create the entertainment that people want.
Momo Wang is an animation and creative director for the entertainment studio Illumination Entertainment. She directs short films and animated content for the company’s blockbuster franchises including Minions, Despicable Me, Sing, and The Grinch. Recently, Momo wrote and directed Penglai, an animated short film narrated by Scarlet Johannsen and produced by Illumination / Universal Pictures. She is also an Inductee into the Asian Hall of Fame for her trailblazing art and creative work in the U.S. and China. Animator, Filmmaker, Fine ArtistGrowing up in Beijing Momo spent her childhood immersed in comics and animation. While earning her animation degree at the Communication University of China (CUC), Beijing she created Tuzki, a lovable bunny character that has gone on to become one of the most recognized, branded characters worldwide. She built and sold the Tuzki franchise to Time-Warner and relocated to Hong Kong to oversee the brand’s growth. Momo then moved to Los Angeles and earned her MFA in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2014. She later founded the Momo Wang Scholarship in 2020 to support international students attending CalArts. Momo is the author of numerous cartoon, graphic novel and book series that have sold nearly one million copies worldwide. Titles include Momo Who?, The Best of You is Yet to Come, and I, Tuzki, U? which spent over one year on Best Seller lists across Asia. Her digital work, from comics to stickers, has been shared by billions of consumers worldwide. Momo collaborates with global brands including Gap, Tencent, Apple, HP, Motorola, Vans, and CryptoKitties on content and fashion projects. She has over one million followers across her social media channels. Her work and stories have been featured globally across major media outlets, including CNN, South China Morning Post, GQ, Elle, Cosmpolitan, Sanlian Lifeweek, Southern Weekly, and The Financial Times.
Jason Zada, founder, Secret Level: Jason Zada is an award-winning storyteller and director. In 2016, his first theatrical feature film, The Forest was released into theaters by Focus Features. Previously, Jason was most recognized for the Emmy Award-winning cinematic personal experience ‘Take This Lollipop’, which has been seen by over 100 million people all over the world. The film gathered 13 million Facebook Likes, making it the fastest growing FB app of all time. Jason’s unique blend of multi-screen storytelling landed him in Adweek/Creativity’s Top 50 most influential creative personalities of 2012. Starting at an early age, Jason was attracted to non-traditional storytelling. Creating Super8 films, programming text adventures on his Commodore 64 and video games formed a strong foundation as both an avid geek and storyteller. During the 1990’s Jason spent time telling stories in CD-ROMs and on the Internet. In the fall of 2000, Jason started the digital advertising agency Evolution Bureau and over the next 8 years grew EVB into a 65-person, world-renowned agency. This led to the holding company, Omnicom, to acquire a majority stake in the company. As a commercial director, Jason has worked with some of the most prominent advertising agencies in the world, such as Weiden + Kennedy, Crispin Porter Bogusky, Sid Lee, Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, RPA, Y&R, Draftfcb, Kaplan Thaler and Grey on a variety of digital and broadcast projects. A lover of telling stories in front of strangers, Jason is often asked to speak at a variety of industry events including Cannes, South by Southwest and FITC. Jason’s work has appeared in New York Times, Forbes, Fast Company, Adweek, Shoot Magazine, Communication Arts, IndieWire, Contagious and a variety of other film and advertising publications.
